ZLC ROOM SCHEDULER -- Installation From the ZLC CD.

The ZLC software CD will do an automatic installation, or you can use it to get just the two files you need if you already have ACCESS.  If you do not have Microsoft ACCESS, the CD's automatic installation will install a "runtime" copy for you to use -- it will run the ZLC Ministry Scheduler but not allow you to use any of the ACCESS design, import, or export functions.

You should first determine if you have ACCESS, and if so which version, then run the ZLC automatic installation that corresponds to your ACCESS version.  If you do not have ACCESS, but do have Microsoft Office, then you should run the ZLC automatic installation that corresponds to your OFFICE version.  Here is how to locate the appropriate ZLC automatic installation process and run it:

First, insert the ZLC Software CD into any CD drive on your PC.  Start up your PC's WINDOWS EXPLORER or MY COMPUTER utility.  Locate the drive containing the ZLC CD (most commonly it will be Drive D under MY COMPUTER).  On that CD you should see folders named CATHOLIC_SOFTWARE_97 and CATHOLIC_SOFTWARE_2000XP.  To run the automatic installation for either version of OFFICE, go into the appropriate folder and double-click on the SETUP.EXE (application).

OPTION B.  INSTALLATION FROM CD WITHOUT USING THE AUTOMATIC SETUP.

If you want to retrieve just the two files needed to run the ZLC MINISTRY SCHEDULER under your own copy of ACCESS, go to the ZLC CD's SUPPORT folder.  In that folder locate the MINISTRY SCHEDULER folder.  Within it are the program files:

ACCESS 97:   MS9732J.EXE       -100 and -PLUS levels, 502 update.

             MS9742J.EXE       -DELUXE level, 502 update.

             MS9731J.EXE       -100 and -PLUS, pre-502.

             MS9741j.EXE       -DELUXE, pre-502.

ACCESS

2000/XP:     MS0032J.EXE       -100 and -PLUS levels, 502 update.

             MS0042J.EXE       -DELUXE level, 502 update.

             MS0031J.EXE       -100 and -PLUS, pre-502.

             MS0041j.EXE       -DELUXE, pre-502.

(for more information on levels and versions go to the ZMS OVERVIEW)

Create a C:\ZMS folder to copy one of these files into, unless it already exists.  Here is how:

a. Start up Windows Explorer (or My Computer) on your PC.

             b. Highlight your Drive C: picture;

             c. Use FILE–NEW–FOLDER on the pull-down  menus.

d. You should see the new folder appear, on the first level under the C: -- type in ZMS as its name.

Copy the appropriate file listed above into your C:\ZMS folder.  The file you copied contains two compressed files you need.  To extract them, go into the C:\ZMS folder and double-click on the copied file.  You will get a black window with text that shows it is “inflating”, “expanding”, etc. the transmitted files.  Note the precise name of the program file that is extracted – you will need to know that name later.

At some point you will see it say FINISHED at the upper left side of the Title Bar of the Black Window; close that window using the X at the upper right.

Now also copy from the CD (same folder) the MSDATA6.MDB file into your C:\ZMS folder.  In the ZMS folder, right-click on that file and select PROPERTIES.  Uncheck the READ-ONLY box, then close the properties.

You can now create a startup icon on your PC’s desktop (or, if you already have one, adjust it).

Start up either Windows Explorer or My Computer.  Locate your Drive C:, folder ZMS, and double-click on the folder to open it (display its contents).  Locate your newly copied program file (it will be one of the .MDB files listed above -- although your PC may be set up to not show file suffixes, in which case make sure it has a file-type of Microsoft ACCESS).  Right-click on that filename, and then left-click on COPY – you will not see anything happen at that time.  Now exit or minimize to get back to your PC’s Desktop.  Go to a clear area and then right-click, and select PASTE SHORTCUT from the menu that pops up.  That should put a shortcut for the program onto your Desktop.  Now rename that icon, by right-clicking and selecting RENAME.

You should now be able to start up the ZLC program, although it is likely to say it is in DEMO mode or that it is not registered.  Proceed anyway, and it will remain fully operational for some number of weeks before a registration code is required.

For information about setting up ZMS to run multi-user on a network, go to ZMS MULTIUSER support.  When you are ready to proceed from the sample data to setting up your own set of data, go to ZMS INITIAL SETUP.

If this is a Demonstration or test situation, please call ZLC for a short walk-through (or go to ZMS OVERVIEW, then to ZMS WALKTHROUGHS  to do your own walk-through).
